Saints Row IV: Re-Elected + Gat out of Hell – When the Saints Go Marching In

Wobei der Titel jetzt nicht brandneu ist. Vielmehr handelt es sich um die erweiterte und etwas aufgefrischte Fassung des originalen Saint Row IVs, das 2013 für PC, Xbox 360 und PS3 herausgebracht worden ist. Tobias testete es damals hier für neXGam.

Doch was soll man unter »erweitert und aufgefrischt« verstehen? Das Spiel umfasst auf den neuen Konsolen nicht nur das Hauptspiel, sondern auch alle Story-DLCs plus zusätzliche Waffen, Autos, Kleidung und so weiter sind Teil des Angebots. Allerdings sind Xbox One-User im Vorteil: Bei ihnen ist der DLC Gat out of Hell, den PS3- und Xbox 360-Besitzer separat im Handel kaufen können, mit auf der Disc drauf. PS4-User kriegen hingegen nur einen Downloadcode, den sie im Store einlösen dürfen. Leider ist unklar, was der Grund für diese Entscheidung ist.

Über die Geschichte des Hauptspiels hat der Kollege Tobias schon in seinem Artikel berichtet. Spielerisch gibt es hier keine Unterschiede zwischen den Versionen. Noch immer steuert ihr den Präsidenten durch die simulierte Stadt und erhaltet nach und nach abstruse, unglaubliche Fähigkeiten. Was auch der Grund dafür ist, dass man viel Zeit mit diesem Spiel verbringen wird, weil diese Superkräfte für einiges an Würze sorgen.

Die zusätzlichen DLCs sind recht nett, auch wenn sie nicht die Klasse des Hauptspiels erreichen. »How the Saints save Christmas« und »Enter the Dominatrix« finden alle innerhalb des Maingames statt und bieten kurzweilige Unterhaltung für ein paar Stunden, ehe man sich danach erneut lieber dem eigentlichen Spiel widmet.

Gat out of Hell hingegen ist etwas Besonderes. Es ist ein alleinstehender DLC, der separat vom Maingame läuft, auch wenn er das jeweilige Charakterdesign des Präsidenten, der Spielfigur von Saints Row IV an sich, aus eben diesem übernimmt. Die Story ist simpel und wie üblich abstrus:

Satan entführt den Präsidenten, um ihn mit seiner Tochter Jezebel zu verheiraten. Zwei seiner Freunde/Gefolgsleute, Johny Gat und die Hackerin Kinzie Kensington, folgen dem Entführten in die Hölle hinterher, wo sie bald auf einen alten Bekannten stoßen. Dane Vogel, der Feind der Gang aus Saints Row 2, begrüßt sie in der Unterwelt und schmiedet gemeinsam mit den beiden einen Plan, den Präsidenten aus den Klauen des Teufels zu entreißen. Dafür muss Johnny Gat so viel Chaos wie nur möglich verursachen. Und das kann er am besten in Zusammenarbeit mit einigen besonderen Höllenbewohnern.

Gat out of Hell wäre im Grunde genommen ein hervorragendes Spiel. Wäre da nicht die Tatsache, dass es eben »nur« die Erweiterung eines anderen gelungenen Games ist. Als solches spielt es sich zwar recht nett, aber mehr eben auch nicht.

Das Problem ist, dass man die ganze Zeit das Gefühl hat, eine kastrierte Version des Maingames vor sich zu haben. Zwar hat man mit Johnny Gats Fähigkeit zu fliegen etwas Neues und es gibt ein paar neue Waffen, doch ansonsten fühlt sich alles altbekannt an. Es fehlt das wirklich Exklusive, das Frische, dass das Gameplay so bereichert, dass man viel Zeit mit dem Add-on verbringen möchte.

Leider kann auch die Story nicht gefallen. Normalerweise ist Saints Row recht witzig. Doch in diesem Fall wollen viele Gags nicht zünden, sodass man sich schon bald gelangweilt zurücklehnt. Das liegt daran, das Johnny Gat das Charisma des Präsidenten fehlt.

Leider ist die Grafik sowohl beim Add-on als auch beim Hauptspiel alles andere als berauschend. Denn abgesehen von einigen netten Farbeffekten merkt man dem Spiel mehr als deutlich an, dass es ursprünglich für die letzte Generation herausgekommen ist. Besonders bei den Haaren und den Gesichtern macht sich das bemerkbar.

Am ärgerlichsten ist jedoch die Tatsache, dass Re-Elected die Konsole ab und an zum Abstürzen bringt. Dann lässt sie sich nicht mehr herunterfahren, sodass man am Ende den Strom ausschalten muss. Leider lässt sich nicht feststellen, woran das liegt, da es unvorhersehbar passiert. Hoffentlich kommt da bald ein Patch raus.

Für wen wäre das Spiel geeignet? Wer Saints Row IV bereits auf der PS3 besitzt, kann die PS4-Fassung getrost ignorieren. Wer hingegen noch keine Saints Row-Erfahrung gemacht hat, der kann beruhigt zugreifen. Wenn auch nur wegen des Hauptspiels und nicht wegen den Story-DLCs.
