Meine bisherige bescheidene Erfahrung zeigt mir aber: it's just not gonna happen.

      Spoiler anzeigen

    • Ah, Duranik leben also noch.

Duranik's Sturmwind" is a (most of the times) horizontally-scrolling shoot 'em up in the tradition of Axelay's 2-D-Levels, to make it short.
Thankfully, Duranik pushed the limits of the Dreamcast's hardware to a whole new level, so that all the graphics and visual effects are just amazing, with some few minor "sub-par"/"awkward" moments, that lack a little more polish (the underwater-Kraken-battle comes to my mind; i somehow found the boss to be animated awkwardly/, resulting in the bosse's movements to look somehow fake, or let's dare to say: "cheap").
The weapon-system resembles Axelay's, however: I would have wished for a little more "Kaboom" in that section. A lock-on-weapon would have been great for example, as well as more "addable" rocket-stuff coming out of our vessel.
In comparison to other "conventional" 2-D-shooters, Sturmwind delivers a massive array of surroundings, taking us on a pleasantly long and wonderfully looking journey (which doesn't overstay its welcome, however).
Maybe a high-speed-section here&there would have added some variety (and sense of acceleration) to the otherwise rather consistently moderate pace of the game.
However: It is that moderate pace, that makes the game very-very accessible and somehow "convenient" to play.
In the difficult settings though, the game becomes a real challenge, and i highly doubt, that many of the critics, who (imo) over-emphasize the game's rather low difficulty and "unchallenging bullet- and enemy-patterns", have played the game to its very end, using the most challenging settings.

All in all, the game leaves me very satisfied: The collision-detection works just fine and it is a sheer joy to steer our ship.
Some of the game's challenge lies in the distinction between for- and background (regarding environmental hazards, a common trope in hori-shooters), also in recognising the bullets.
I enjoy this challenge, whereas others claim, that this is one of the game's biggest weaknesses.

This is a must-play/must-buy on the DC, for it marks the peak of shoot 'em up-goodness (it can be named in one row with border down, not a question about it) on a long-gone, yet easy to aquire console, that can be hooked on most modern TV-Sets via VGA (looking great&clean).

I'd call this game the pinnacle of visuals on this console. It's unmatched.

Edit: I would even like to elaborate, that it has no match in this whole genre, even today (i haven't seen anything more impressive in that genre neither on the Bone nor on the PS4, taking Raiden and Darius as examples).

Edit: I forgot to mention the amazing sound (if i recall CD-i right, it was done by "505", famously known in the Atari-homebrew-scene): Well-executed, pumping trance-goodness, that is most of the times in quite perfect synchronisation with the game's moderate scrolling-pace (luckily no Gabba-/Hardcore- or Euro-Trance-Stuff, as it for instance was the case with the PAL- and US-Version of Bio-Metal :ray2: ), so that this never becomes a snore-&bore-fest (plus: there's always very interesting/impressive stuff going on on the screen).

    • Boa, du Sau! Sehr-sehr geil, das
